John Cena is days away from the final match of his legendary career, and he claims he has never felt better.
The 16-time World Champion is set to face GUNTHER at Saturday Night’s Main Event this weekend. During an appearance on the Insight With Chris Van Vliet podcast, Cena expressed his excitement for the event and defended the creative direction of his farewell tour, noting that fan engagement has remained high despite criticism.
“I’m super excited about the 13th because they bought what I sold them,” Cena said. “I would love for it to be, rather than just a tribute show, I want it to be a look ahead… I’ll have my last in-ring performance. That is for certain. I’m not doing anything after that.”
Cena also highlighted his desire to use the event to showcase the future of WWE, specifically NXT talent.
“We get big WWE Superstars so they can say they were on the card in non-canon exhibition matches against the best and brightest we got in NXT. So gosh, what a way to go out.”
Cena’s wish for an “NXT showcase” has been granted on the final card. In addition to his main event against GUNTHER, the Saturday Night’s Main Event lineup officially includes Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes facing NXT Champion Oba Femi, and a women’s showcase match featuring Bayley taking on NXT standout Sol Ruca.
