Paul “Triple H” Levesque faced the wrath of the WWE Universe after John Cena’s final match ended in defeat.
Fans loudly booed Levesque during the post-show broadcast, blaming him for the booking decision that saw Cena submit to GUNTHER’s sleeper hold. When asked about the reaction, Levesque remained unfazed, even joking, “I’m disappointed. I thought it would be so much louder.”
Levesque defended the finish as a time-honored tradition of the business.
“John has said the right thing his entire career, that it’s about leaving this place better than you found it… You do what is right for the business. You do what is right for the industry. John has done that his entire career,” he explained.
He insisted that putting over a new star was exactly what Cena would have wanted, regardless of creative control.
“If you were to say, ‘What would Cena do on his way out?’… He will put over somebody on the way out. He will leave this better than he found it… I know people will criticize this. People will talk about this moment right here. I’ve got big shoulders, I’m good with it.”
