William Regal’s recent warning to wrestlers about the dangers of head-dropping moves has sparked a conversation about safety, and Jeff Jarrett has weighed in with a pragmatic perspective.
Speaking on his My World podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer acknowledged the risks but argued that the evolution of the sport makes it impossible to simply “slow down.”
“The industry is not going in reverse. It goes without saying,” Jarrett argued. He noted that modern wrestlers like Will Ospreay grew up emulating the high-risk style of the X-Division, creating a generation of athletes who are “bigger, faster, stronger.”
“You aren’t putting the toothpaste back in the tube. There is no chance in hell that any of these guys are going to say, ‘No, I’m not going to do that because of long-term (health issues).’”
However, Jarrett emphasized that while the style may not change, the approach to medical care has. He praised AEW’s medical team, noting that Tony Khan treats the roster “like a sports team” with multiple trainers available at every show for preventative care and immediate treatment.
