Brody King may be known for his menacing persona, but he is rooting for the underdog this Wednesday. In a new interview with The Orlando Sentinel, the House of Black powerhouse expressed his support for his former tag team partner, Bandido, who is set to challenge MJF for the AEW World Championship on Dynamite.
“I would love to see Bandido become AEW World Champion,” King said. He and Bandido previously held the AEW World Tag Team titles together, creating a bond that King still values. However, he was quick to add that his support for his friend doesn’t diminish his own ambitions. “I would also love to be World Champion or TNT Champion. Singles gold is the goal, but it’s not the ultimate goal for me.”
King also opened up about the duality of his public image. He noted that while fans expect him to be a “brooding brawler,” his real-life demeanor often surprises them. “It takes people off guard when they’re like, ‘Oh, he’s funny,’ or ‘Oh, he’s kind of nice, too.’ For the character, it’s almost scarier when the scary guy is kind of nice,” he explained.
Outside the ring, King continues to balance his wrestling career with his role as the frontman for the hardcore band God’s Hate. “What we’ve always wanted in God’s Hate was just to be a hardcore band. We’re hitting that at the highest level possible while staying true to our roots,” he said, though he admitted that wrestling remains his “bread and butter.”
King also credited MVP as a mentor from his early days in MLW, revealing that the veteran helped guide him away from dangerous in-ring habits. “He guided a young Brody King who wanted to do all kinds of crazy stuff… He helped guide my way, learn how to protect myself and protect my size.”
