R-Truth Signed New WWE Contract Just Hours Before Money In The Bank Return

The return of R-Truth at Money In The Bank 2025 is already being hailed as one of the most heartwarming moments of the last year, but new details reveal that the segment came dangerously close to never happening. The January 20th episode of WWE Unreal: Season 2 on Netflix pulled back the curtain on the chaotic hours leading up to the premium live event, disclosing that R-Truth was not officially under contract until the very day of the show.

According to the behind-the-scenes footage, negotiations between R-Truth and WWE had stalled and dragged on for weeks, leaving his status for the event in serious jeopardy. Triple H, WWE’s Chief Content Officer, confirmed on camera that the deal was still being worked on while the production crew was setting up the arena. The uncertainty was palpable backstage, as the creative team had to prepare alternative plans in case the veteran performer did not put pen to paper in time.

The breakthrough reportedly came after an intense, emotional conversation between R-Truth and WWE President Nick Khan. Truth described the hour-long meeting as pivotal, stating that it allowed him to voice his concerns and resolve lingering issues. That discussion paved the way for the contract to be finalized just hours before the broadcast began. It was only after the ink was dry that WWE Executive Director Bruce Prichard gave the green light to change the show’s format, making the decision to close the event with Truth’s surprise return—a spot that would have been impossible without the signed deal.

Perhaps the most significant revelation from the episode concerns the nature of the contract itself. While dirt sheets and insider reports at the time speculated that this run was intended to be a “farewell tour” for the 54-year-old star, the documentation proves otherwise. It has now been confirmed that R-Truth signed a lucrative four-year deal with a three-year option attached. This massive commitment signals that WWE views R-Truth not just as a nostalgia act, but as a long-term asset who will remain a fixture on television well into the late 2020s.
