Trey Miguel Returns to TNA Wrestling Following Sudden AEW Release

The professional wrestling landscape can change in the blink of an eye, and no one knows that better this week than Trey Miguel. Just days after his release from All Elite Wrestling, Miguel made a shocking return to TNA Wrestling during the live January 22 episode of iMPACT on AMC. The return occurred during the high-stakes Feast or Fired match, where Miguel made an unannounced entrance and successfully retrieved one of the four hanging briefcases. This move secures his immediate future in the company, guaranteeing him either a championship opportunity or—ironically—a potential “pink slip,” depending on the contents of the case.

Miguel’s whirlwind week began with reports from Fightful Select that TNA officials had entered into discussions with him almost immediately after his AEW exit. Miguel had originally left TNA at the end of 2025 alongside his Rascalz stablemates—Dezmond Xavier, Zachary Wentz, and Myron Reed—to join AEW. However, his time in Jacksonville was abruptly cut short. Reports indicate that Warner Bros. Discovery mandated his release due to a resurfaced social media comment from 2020, a decision that was reportedly made above AEW’s internal management. While the rest of The Rascalz remain with AEW, Miguel has pivoted back to the promotion where he first rose to national prominence.

The Feast or Fired match is one of TNA’s most volatile concepts, and Miguel’s involvement adds a layer of real-world tension to the storyline. The four briefcases contain title shots for the TNA World Championship, the International Championship, the World Tag Team Championship, and a termination notice. Having just been fired from one major company, the prospect of Miguel opening the “Fired” case next week would be a cruel twist of fate. However, the more likely scenario sees him re-entering the title picture he vacated only months ago.

TNA has announced that the contents of the briefcases will be revealed on the January 29 episode of iMPACT. Miguel stands alongside fellow winners Eddie Edwards, Steve Maclin, and Eric Young as they await their destiny. For Miguel, this return represents a chance to reset the narrative and prove his value in the ring, separate from the corporate controversies that led to his AEW departure.
