Swerve Strickland is set to go one-on-one with Andrade El Idolo in a match with significant title implications. The bout was set in motion during Saturday’s Collision, where Andrade, fresh off a victory over Magnus, cut a backstage promo declaring his sights were set on the AEW World Championship, noting that Strickland was the man standing in his way.
AEW President Tony Khan wasted no time confirming the match for the January 28 episode in Austin, Texas. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Khan made the announcement official, writing, “#AEWDynamite TBS + HBO Max. 8/7c, Austin, TX. THIS WEDNESDAY, 1/28. @SwerveConfident vs. @AndradeElIdolo. The episode is shaping up to be a loaded night of action at the Cedar Park center. Reigning AEW World Champion MJF has been announced to appear, likely to address the winner of the Strickland vs. Andrade bout. Additionally, three championships will be defended on the show: FTR puts the World Tag Team Titles on the line against Mark Davis and Jake Doyle, Mark Briscoe defends the TNT Championship against El Clon, and Kris Statlander defends the AEW Women’s World Championship against Thekla.
