New Japan Pro-Wrestling is set to lose another cornerstone talent, as Hiromu Takahashi announced he will depart the promotion after The New Beginning in Osaka on February 11. Takahashi’s exit follows the recent departures of fellow Los Ingobernables de Japon members Tetsuya Naito and BUSHI, as well as EVIL and SANADA.
However, speaking to Tokyo Sports, Takahashi clarified that his decision was not influenced by others or by frustration with the company. “I want to deny the idea that I’m leaving because I’m dissatisfied… I’m leaving with ambition. It’s a super positive departure,” he said.
He cited the departures of Shinsuke Nakamura and Kazuchika Okada at age 36 as a motivating factor. “The age of 36… was something that really stuck with me. I wondered if 36 was a kind of line (for taking on new challenges).” While his next destination is unconfirmed, rumors have linked him to both Pro Wrestling NOAH and WWE.
