With WrestleMania 42 just two months away, WWE is reportedly rethinking its plans for the grandest stage of them all. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the only match currently “locked in” is the Night Two main event between World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk and Roman Reigns. The rest of the card is said to be “open to changes” following disappointing early ticket sales.
Triple Threat Possibility for Night One
Current plans position Drew McIntyre vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship as the Night One headliner. However, Meltzer notes that a Triple Threat match involving Jacob Fatu or Sami Zayn “cannot be ruled out.” Rhodes faces both men in a triple threat on SmackDown tonight to determine an Elimination Chamber participant.
Creative is reportedly aiming to avoid a predictable build for Rhodes vs. McIntyre, given their recent matches at Wrestlepalooza and Saturday Night’s Main Event. The goal is a “less direct build” to keep the storyline fresh as the company navigates the road to Las Vegas.
