The prolonged absence of former AEW Women’s World Champion Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D., continues to be a major talking point among professional wrestling fans. Baker has not appeared on All Elite Wrestling programming in several months, prompting questions regarding her current contract status with the promotion.
Injury Time Could Extend Contract Deep Into 2027
The situation was recently addressed during a Q&A session hosted by Fightful Select. Sean Ross Sapp provided clarification on Baker’s standing, confirming that she remains under a valid contract with AEW. More importantly, he highlighted that the company holds the contractual option to extend her current deal due to the significant amount of time she has missed.
“She’s under contract for a number of months and then AEW could add time to her deal, which normally I wouldn’t think that they would, but now it seems like absolutely something that they would do,” Sapp explained during the session.
Baker’s absence has been attributed to various physical ailments and ongoing health issues that have kept her out of the ring. Standard professional wrestling contracts typically include clauses that allow promoters to freeze a deal and tack on additional time if a talent is unable to perform for extended periods due to injury.
“I mean, she missed like a long time due to some physical ailments and issues. So she could be under contract well into 2027, maybe even the — I don’t know, but I’ve not heard of her being brought up,” Sapp noted. If Tony Khan and AEW management choose to exercise this injury clause, Baker’s contractual obligations could stretch deep into the 2027 calendar year, regardless of when she is physically cleared to return to television.
