Dustin Rhodes Shuts Down Fan Demand for WWE Return

AEW

Dustin Rhodes has made it abundantly clear that his future lies with All Elite Wrestling, firmly shutting the door on a potential return to WWE. The 56-year-old wrestling legend, who enjoyed six distinct runs in the Stamford-based company—most notably as the bizarre and captivating Goldust—has been a cornerstone of Tony Khan’s promotion since its inception in 2019.

“That Ain’t Me Anymore”

The conversation surrounding his future sparked when Rhodes took to X to post a heartfelt tribute to AJ Styles following his recent retirement. A fan replied to the post, urging WWE to bring Rhodes back immediately to reprise the Goldust character. Rhodes did not let the comment slide, offering a blunt and revealing response about his feelings toward his former employer.

Rhodes slammed WWE for previously keeping him “on the bench” and stated he has no interest in returning to a stagnant position. “Nope! I never got a raise there. What, you want me sitting the bench doing nothing? That ain’t me anymore,” Rhodes fired back. He emphasized that he is currently doing the best work of his career as an active competitor and coach in AEW, where he has previously held the TNT Championship.

Furthermore, Rhodes addressed the legacy of his most famous persona. While expressing love for the character that defined much of his career, he believes it is best left in the past. “I love the character Goldust, but he ran its course. I did what I was told and it got me nowhere. No thanks.”
