Harley Cameron Deactivates Social Media After Fan Backlash Over Injury

AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champion Harley Cameron has deactivated her Twitter account after becoming the target of severe online criticism. The intense backlash from fans was tied directly to a frightening spot that occurred during a championship match on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite.

Fans Debate Responsibility Following Legitimate Injury

During the live broadcast, Cameron and her Babes of Wrath partner, Willow Nightingale, defended their tag team titles against the MegaBad duo of Penelope Ford and Megan Bayne. The match took a dangerous turn midway through when Penelope Ford attempted a high-risk moonsault from the ring to the floor, aiming to take out both champions. Unfortunately, Cameron and Nightingale were slightly out of position to properly catch the diving competitor.

The miscalculation caused Ford to land awkwardly, heavily impacting her previously injured leg. The injury was immediately apparent and legitimate, preventing Ford from continuing the match. To protect the athletes, an on-the-fly audible was called by officials, leading to MegaBad’s manager, Lena Kross, interfering to cause a disqualification finish. Ford was subsequently evaluated and diagnosed with an ankle sprain. Fortunately, the injury is not considered severe, and she is expected to make a relatively quick return.

In the hours following the broadcast, a vocal segment of the internet wrestling community directed their anger squarely at Cameron, blaming her for failing to protect her opponent and demanding that she be stripped of her title. As the vitriol intensified, Cameron chose to remove herself from the platform and deactivate her account. Conversely, many fans and industry professionals have stepped up to defend her, pointing out the inherent, unavoidable risks of executing a flawless catch during high-velocity aerial maneuvers like a moonsault to the outside.
