MJF believes the current AEW roster is the best the promotion has ever assembled — and he has a specific explanation for why the locker room culture has improved so dramatically.
Speaking on The Takedown on Sports Illustrated ahead of AEW Revolution, the World Champion reflected on the shift inside AEW from a promotion that elevated established legacy names to one now built around younger, hungry talent. “Right now, it’s about fresh faces. It’s about the new young guys. It’s about pushing the guys that are under 40 into emphasis. It’s about giving opportunities to individuals that want to be in All Elite Wrestling. If you don’t want to be in AEW, go have fun elsewhere. We don’t want you here.”
MJF Credits Competitive but Healthy Environment for AEW’s Turnaround
MJF described the current locker room as the most competitive in the promotion’s history while also being its most unified — a combination he attributes to a clean-up of the roster. “There’s no more cancers. There’s no more a-holes that think they’re too cool for school,” he said, without naming specific individuals. “Everybody in this promotion wants to be in this promotion, and if you don’t, you get weeded out pretty damn fast.”
He was careful to note his own distance from the team dynamic, however, keeping his trademark self-awareness intact. “Right now, there’s never been a better team atmosphere in the history of the AEW locker room. Am I a part of that team? Absolutely not — I hang out in my own locker room.
