Jeff Jarrett said the volume of tributes to Bill Dundee last week caught him off guard, and that Dundee would have enjoyed all of it.
Dundee died at 82. A celebration of life is set for Thursday and will be streamed.
“I was a little bit surprised at all the tributes and the internet wrestling community chatter that took place last week, and it put a smile on Bill’s face,” Jarrett said on My World with Jeff Jarrett.
He said the clips that resurfaced went well beyond the Jerry Lawler programmes.
“I saw some stuff that I hadn’t seen in a while about the loser leave town match, him and Lawler, that they did on the Memphis studio show for an hour,” Jarrett said. “There’s a clip of Eddie Marlin and Spirit of ’76 and Dundee came down. I could go on and on.”
Jarrett said Dundee’s character was the same thing that made him work.
“Bill wasn’t everybody’s cup of tea, and that’s okay, because if he rubbed you the wrong way, there’s a good chance that the trait you may or may not like about Bill is what made him successful,” he said. “He just didn’t take no. Worked his a– off. My dad respected that.”
Jarrett said Dundee’s tag partner George Barnes went back home to Australia while Dundee chose to stay.
