Jeff Jarrett believes the WWE that Aleister Black returned to was not the same company he left the first time.
Black, who was released by WWE in April, recently announced he is going back to his original name, Tommy End. On My World with Jeff Jarrett, Jarrett was asked about Black’s criticism of his final WWE run.
“I think that this transition of TKO’s management during his process of, we’ll call it the last 36 months, is going to kind of tell out that the WWE he left, he didn’t go back to.”
Jarrett pointed to The New Level as an example of how much has changed.
“So the New Level, I would have never thought that they would have had the ability to leave. I just didn’t. It was a real telltale time to me.”
He said the biggest thing Vince McMahon and Tony Khan have in common is that the buck stopped with both of them, and that is no longer how WWE works.
“I’m not saying Punk and Cody and Roman write their own stuff. But when you’re not the end all be all, and the buck doesn’t stop with you, by nature, Punk, Cody, Roman, you just fill in the blank. They can push Triple H a lot harder than they could ever push Vince or in AEW’s case, Tony.”
Jarrett added that TKO’s Ari Emanuel is “not a wrestling guy” and focuses on the bottom line, and that WWE’s model is now built around fixed revenue and sponsor-friendly content rather than buy rates.
As for Black, Jarrett said, “Freaking incredible talent. He’s got a unique skill set that he will rise again. There’s no doubt in my mind.”
