In a moment that shocked the capacity crowd at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Kris Statlander has become the new AEW Women’s World Champion. At the AEW All Out pay-per-view, Statlander won a chaotic four-way match, pinning the now-former champion, “Timeless” Toni Storm, to capture the title for the first time in her career. The match, which also featured former champion Jamie Hayter and Thekla, was a hard-fought battle that saw multiple near-falls and momentum shifts before Statlander capitalized on an opportunity to score the surprise victory. The win marks the culmination of a long and arduous journey for Statlander, who has battled back from multiple serious injuries to reach the top of the division.
The match was a non-stop affair, with each of the four competitors having moments where they seemed poised to win. Early on, Thekla was able to gain an advantage, but in a four-way contest, control is always temporary. The bout devolved into a slugfest at several points, most notably when Toni Storm and Jamie Hayter traded heavy blows in the center of the ring, a moment that had the Canadian crowd on its feet. Thekla broke up that exchange and managed to lock a submission hold on the champion, but Storm escaped. In the chaotic final moments of the match, Kris Statlander saw an opening and caught Storm with a quick roll-up, securing her arms for the three-count to win the championship. The result left both the fans and Storm herself in a state of surprise, ending the “Timeless” one’s seven-month reign.
For Statlander, this championship victory is a career-defining moment and a testament to her perseverance. A homegrown AEW star since joining the company in 2019, her path to the top has been repeatedly derailed by major injuries. She suffered her first torn ACL in June 2020, an injury that kept her out of action for nearly a year. After a successful return, she suffered a second major knee injury in August 2022, tearing the ACL and lateral meniscus in her other leg, which sidelined her for another nine months. Upon her second return in May 2023, she immediately captured the TBS Championship by ending Jade Cargill’s long undefeated streak, a title she held for 174 days.
Despite her success as the TBS Champion, Statlander has openly talked about feeling like she needed to prove she was still worthy of a world title opportunity after her long injury layoffs and a number of failed championship challenges early in her AEW career. In a recent interview, she referred to 2025 as her “reformation year,” a time for her to shed the “goofy” alien gimmick of her past and evolve into a more serious and undeniable main event competitor. Her shocking victory at All Out is the ultimate validation of that journey. With the title now in her possession, Statlander is expected to be confronted by a host of challengers, but her first televised address as the new AEW Women’s World Champion will likely take place on the upcoming episode of AEW Dynamite, where the next chapter of her reign will begin.
