Report: Nigel McGuinness Signs New Contract With AEW

Nigel McGuinness has reportedly signed a new contract with All Elite Wrestling, which will keep him with the promotion primarily as a commentator while also allowing for “occasional matches.” According to a report in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the 49-year-old veteran’s new deal is similar to his previous one, solidifying his role as a key voice for AEW Collision and Ring of Honor programming.

McGuinness, who retired from in-ring competition in 2011, made his shocking return to the ring in 2024 after more than a decade away. His comeback has featured several high-profile bouts at major AEW pay-per-views, including All In: London, Double or Nothing, and Forbidden Door. His most recent match was a critically acclaimed, albeit unsuccessful, challenge against then-IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr. at Forbidden Door.

This new contract confirms that while McGuinness has stated he does not plan to return to a full-time wrestling schedule, he will remain an active part of the roster. His versatility as both a celebrated in-ring technician and a sharp-witted commentator has been highly valued by AEW, allowing him to contribute to storylines in a unique, part-time capacity.
