Multiple AEW sources indicated the appearance was not tied to a contract, and the general backstage feeling is that Rousey is not “All Elite.” Proximity played a major role in making the appearance happen, as Rousey lives in the Los Angeles area where Revolution was held, and she has a positive relationship with Tony Khan that made the trip easy to arrange without long-term commitments.
On the creative side, AEW considered the segment a success — the company wanted her in a heel role, and while the crowd reaction matched their goals, Rousey herself apparently expected a different response from the audience. No follow-up creative plans have been confirmed as of this writing.
WWE and TKO Were Not Blindsided by Rousey’s AEW Appearance
Despite earlier reports suggesting WWE officials were shocked, sources within TKO and WWE told Fightful they were not caught off guard. “They expect her to do anything she can to go against WWE, UFC and TKO at this point,” the report noted, adding that a return to WWE is not currently anticipated. Rousey is also scheduled to fight Gina Carano in an MMA comeback on May 16, 2026 under Jake Paul’s MVP promotion, airing on Netflix.
