The two made their dramatic return at Revolution, setting their sights on FTR’s AEW World Tag Team Championships and seeking revenge after FTR laid out Copeland’s wife Beth Phoenix. With their Dynasty title shot confirmed, the pair sat down with Renee Paquette to reflect on a partnership that stretches back nearly 40 years.
Copeland delivered the most emotionally resonant reflection of the conversation. “We met in the sixth grade. We used to jump off the washing machine in the side yard and pretend we were wrestling. You get that many years of dreaming about this. Him and I would go to local shows and ask to help just in the off chance that we’d be able to get in the ring. We’d paper and flyer towns, just in case when we’re setting up chairs they say, ‘Hey, just go on in.’ Which happened. And you go through things like that together — you’re essentially attached at the hip for almost 40 years.”
Christian Cage and Adam Copeland Have a Different Definition of What Matters About Their Partnership
Cage offered his own perspective — characteristically direct and financially motivated. “The reality is, whenever we step foot in that ring we’re interchangeable. That’s been part of the reason we’ve gotten along so well. We own the same brain when it comes to the art of professional wrestling.” He then pivoted to the point that mattered most to him. “We also make a ton of money together. And that’s what’s important to me. After everything we’ve been through — Adam’s wife being taken out, myself being taken out — I feel like I owe it to myself to buy another luxury watch.” The contrast between Copeland’s heartfelt reflection and Cage’s pragmatic focus on watches and paydays is exactly why this team has always worked.
