Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods departed WWE this past week after rejecting a request from WWE and TKO to restructure their contracts, according to Fightful Select. The duo, who re-signed with WWE last year on deals reportedly running through 2030, are believed to each have been making seven figures under their current terms.
When approached about restructuring, Kingston and Woods declined and instead requested their release, which was granted. The report notes that TKO had tasked WWE with cutting millions of dollars from its payroll, which is likely the catalyst for the proposed adjustment to their deals. According to Fightful, the pair had reached their decision as far back as last Monday.
There is reported interest from AEW in bringing in The New Day, with several AEW wrestlers posting publicly about the duo following their exit. Kingston and Woods exit alongside JC Mateo and Tonga Loa, and arrive on the heels of the wider post-WrestleMania 42 cuts that included Aleister Black, Kairi Sane, the Motor City Machine Guns, and others.
