Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Jake Hager is making his pro wrestling return. WWC in Puerto Rico announced on Sunday that Hager will appear at its 53rd Anniversario event on June 26 in San Juan, marking his first match since the end of 2024.
Hager is best known for his run in WWE as Jack Swagger, where he captured the World Heavyweight Championship before leaving the company in 2017. After appearing in the fourth season of Lucha Underground, he signed with AEW in 2019, where he was primarily aligned with Chris Jericho’s various factions early on. Once those groups disbanded, his TV time dwindled, and he left the company in 2024.
Hager has not been quiet about his departure either, openly criticizing Tony Khan in interviews. He has said AEW’s president “can’t make himself a sandwich, let alone write a storyline that will [last]” and argued AEW changed after Cody Rhodes left for WWE in 2022.
Last month, Hager made his Power Slap debut, winning his first match during WrestleMania 42 weekend.
