Sol Ruca revealed she initially mistook the WWE Recruit page’s DM offering her a tryout for a UFC outreach, saying she nearly turned it down because she didn’t know how to fight.
“Honestly, at first I thought it was the UFC and was like ‘I don’t know how to fight, I’m not gonna do that,'” Ruca said. “Did my research and was like ‘Okay, this is sick, I think I could do this.’ Might as well go on a tryout. If I don’t make it, it’s a cool story to tell people, and if I do, hell yeah, let’s do it.”
At the time, Ruca was living in Hawaii, working as a social media content creator and online personal trainer, posting gymnastics and acrobatics clips. She was scouted through her online presence. After receiving the tryout invite, she researched wrestling and found Katana Chance (formerly Kacy Catanzaro), whose gymnastic background matched hers, which convinced her the door was worth walking through.
Ruca now has a Women’s Intercontinental Championship match against Becky Lynch at Clash in Italy after winning at Saturday Night’s Main Event by disqualification.
