Cody Rhodes said he is addicted to being in the top position in WWE and that his recent challengers have kept him from getting comfortable, speaking on the WWE YouTube channel ahead of Clash in Italy.
“It’s addictive,” Rhodes said of the championship role. “I think the spot that I’m in is addictive, and I’ll say this — I’ve been tested. And I credit people like Sami Zayn, CM Punk, and Ricky Saints for not letting me get in a comfort zone.”
The comments came days after a face-to-face with Gunther on Friday’s SmackDown in Barcelona, where Gunther called Rhodes an entitled star addicted to approval. Rhodes fired back that championships become an addiction for everyone and that Gunther is no different. “He’ll get very close,” Rhodes said of Gunther’s Clash in Italy chances, “and then he’ll be forced to realize that he’s just not on my level.”
Rhodes defends the Undisputed WWE Championship against Gunther in the opening ESPN hour of Clash in Italy on Sunday in Turin.
