Dave Meltzer provided additional context on Enzo Amore and Big Bill’s expected WWE return in the July 6 Wrestling Observer Newsletter, revealing that AEW had actually been building toward a significant program for Big Bill that never materialized.
“They were building up the idea of a turn and feud which would have been his biggest spotlight, but it never materialized,” Meltzer wrote, explaining that AEW abandoned plans for Bill after Chris Jericho went on hiatus and the Learning Tree act was dropped.
On the reunion’s prospects: “At first they will work out of the nostalgia and Cass is also so much better than he was in his WWE days. Enzo was never much in the ring but Danhausen getting over probably opened the door for a guy who is marginal in the ring but is a unique talker, and Enzo also was a merch mover in his day.”
Meltzer confirmed Bill “looks to be headed in” to WWE after giving notice to AEW. Bill turns 40 next month.
