John Cena says he told AJ Styles to clothesline him during their Crown Jewel 2025 match to avoid having to do Rey Mysterio’s 619. Cena shared the story on WWE Unreal, the Netflix docuseries whose third season premiered Tuesday.
Cena and Styles wrestled for a final time at Crown Jewel 2025 in Perth, Australia, in a match built around tribute spots. Cena said fans were calling for the two to hit various stars’ signature moves, including the 619.
“I can’t do the 619, but I told AJ (Styles), ‘I’ll drop toe hold you.’ You can see me drop toe hold him, and lean against the ropes and I say ‘Clothesline me, clothesline me so I don’t have to do this move.'”
Before the match, Cena handed announcer Alicia Taylor a handwritten introduction and asked her to read it aloud, praising Styles’ career across NJPW, TNA, and WWE. Cena has said the unscripted moment got him into some trouble with WWE management.
Cena wrestled his final match against Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13. Styles wrestled his own last match a month later, also against Gunther, at the Royal Rumble.
