D’Lo Brown says TNA moving Impact head-to-head with WWE Raw was the dumbest thing the company did. Brown made the comment on the latest episode of Dark Side of the Ring, which also featured Eric Bischoff explaining the 2010 decision.
“I thought it was the dumbest thing. Trying to go Monday night live with a company that spends more on pyro than we spend on production.”
Bischoff, who made the call, described it as a strategy he had used before.
“I went back to, I won’t say a bag of tricks, necessarily, but I went back to a strategy. Going head-to-head with WWE was going to make so much noise. It was about creating awareness.”
TNA Impact began running against Raw on January 4, 2010. Bischoff had previously put WCW Nitro opposite Raw in the 1990s, a run in which Nitro beat WWE in the ratings for 83 straight weeks. The TNA experiment lasted roughly ten weeks, with WWE winning each week.
