Nashville Kats quarterback Tyler Kulka was named the Under Armour AF1 Most Valuable Player at the Arena Football One Awards Banquet on Friday night, one of five awards the Kats took home.
Wide receiver Malik Honeycutt was named Big Game USA Breakout Player of the Year and kicker Kyle Kaplan took the 97 Sports Jim Foster Special Teams Player of the Year award. Head coach Darren Arbet was named Royal Retros Coach of the Year and offensive coordinator Steve Papin was named Nexxfield Assistant Coach of the Year.
The Nashville Lady Kats dance team, directed by Cissy Brown and Lavern Brown, was named AF1 Best Dance Team.
Eight individual awards were handed out in total. Michigan Arsenal quarterback Malik Henry was named VICE Offensive Player of the Year, Washington Wolfpack defensive back Byron Edwards took Bet Rivers Defensive Player of the Year, and Oceanside wide receiver JoVohn Tucker was named HTN Rookie of the Year.
Kulka led AF1 in total passing yards with 2,835 and total offensive yards with 2,817, and finished second in touchdown passes with 56. Honeycutt led the league in total receiving yards with 1,047. Kaplan was second in points scored with 131, the only kicker ranked in the top five in that category.
