Darby Allin said he almost drowned while filming a stunt for Shark Week last year, attempting a skateboard trick on the ocean floor surrounded by sharks.
Speaking to 8 News Now Las Vegas, the former AEW World Champion described the moment.
“I was filming Shark Week last year, and I was trying a kick flip at the bottom of the ocean with 15 sharks swimming around my head, and then I ran out of oxygen. And I remember almost drowning there.”
Allin said AEW is the only place he could live the way he does, pointing to his Mount Everest climb, and reflected on his World Championship reign in the same interview.
“I was willing to go places that nobody else was willing to go every single week. We’re not talking about ‘let’s have a night off or a quick defense.’ There were times, especially in my first defense against Tommaso Ciampa, I thought, with some of the spots we did in the match, that the championship run could end from injury.”
“I was burning the candle at both ends, but I have no regrets at all, because you live by the sword, you die by the sword.”
Allin teamed with Mistico and Chris Jericho in a win at Grand Slam Mexico last week, and was named as the title challenger Kevin Knight turned down before Jericho was picked for tonight’s TNT Championship match on Dynamite.
