Jeff Jarrett On His First WWF Guitar Shot At Royal Rumble 1996

Jeff Jarrett says his guitar shot on Ahmed Johnson at Royal Rumble 1996 was his first in the WWF.

On My World with Jeff Jarrett, Jarrett said he had used a guitar before in other promotions.

“I believe so. Yes, I’ve done it in Dallas and Billy Travis and different angles, I think. But yes, WWF. This, I believe, this was the maiden guitar shot, and who knew that Moolah was going to join that ranks, and Gary Coleman, and Beetlejuice, and Matt Cardona,” Jarrett said.

He said he did not expect it to become part of his act.

“I’m not sure Vince is going to go with the guitar, that I’m going to carry to the ring every time.”

The Honky Tonk Man had used a guitar as a weapon years earlier. Jarrett said that never crossed his mind.

“The Double J persona was all about, you know, because I had been on Raw and played the electric guitar or picked at it like I was going to sing. I was a singer. And part of my shtick was world’s greatest singer, world’s greatest entertainer. So I didn’t really think anything about a Honky Tonk analogy or any of that.”
