Former AEW World Champion Samoa Joe has made his intentions clear: he is coming to reclaim the AEW World Championship at the upcoming WrestleDream pay-per-view. The “Samoan Submission Machine,” who is currently one-third of the AEW World Trios Champions, is set to challenge the reigning champion, “Hangman” Adam Page, in one of the main events of the October 18th show. Joe’s previous reign as World Champion was a dominant one, but it ended at the hands of Jon Moxley, and he has been on a quest to get back to the top ever since.
During a recent interview with STL Sports Central, Joe was asked if he still has something to prove after his first reign.
“Oh, you’d be absolutely correct. I mean, you know, anytime that you are not the possessor of the AW World Championship, you should be taking it personally. So, yes, 100% correct. You know, it was not what we would hope it would be, but like all things in the future, this too can be amended.”
He also sent a direct and disrespectful message to his opponent, “Hangman” Adam Page, claiming that Page’s entire championship run is only possible because of the protection he has received from Joe’s faction, The Opps.
“Well, I think in a world that I exist, anybody can get it at any time, including Hangman Adam Page. Now, let’s be honest here. I mean, Hangman Adam Page, he’s been an exemplary person. But, I mean, as far as like being a champion, what I consider a champion, he’s in the position he’s in right now because of what we, The Opps, did on his behalf. He has been protected because of us. And you know, when you disrespect me, when you stop and don’t recognize the source, when you bite the hand that has fed you so graciously, I mean, it’s only natural that I have to come in here and do a little correction, you know, make make the hangman understand how the hierarchy works and how things really are in the world. And, you know, wrestle dream that’ll be that correction. You know, he’ll very much understand where he is on the hierarchy, where I stand, and where my level is, and where his level is. And obviously, he’s going to realize there are very, very different places.”
