A new report from Fightful Select’s weekly Q&A has detailed the backstage process of how AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Moné has been able to capture a record-breaking 12 concurrent championships. According to the report, it is the independent promotions themselves who are requesting to put their titles on “The CEO,” not the other way around. Promoters are reportedly eager to book Moné to win their top women’s championship because they want the significant exposure that comes with having a global superstar hold their title and work their event.
This clarifies that Moné is not demanding to win these belts as part of her “belt collector” gimmick. Instead, multiple independent promotions have confirmed that they “know what they’re doing” and are proactively making the offer to her management.
This strategy, however, comes at a high price. As previously reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, one independent promoter who approached Moné’s team was quoted an appearance fee of $25,000. While this price is roughly five times the market average for a top independent star, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful noted that other top AEW stars have indicated they wouldn’t “leave their house” for an outside booking for anything less than $30,000.
Moné’s historic run is set to continue. She is already scheduled to challenge Kris Statlander for the AEW Women’s World Championship at Full Gear on November 22. She is also teaming with ROH Women’s World Champion Athena in the inaugural AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship tournament, where they are set to face Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron in the first round.
