Paul Heyman has his eye on Austin Theory, but the potential role comes with a caveat.
According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Heyman has expressed interest in bringing the former United States Champion into his new faction, “The Vision.” The goal would be twofold: to elevate Theory into a star and to protect the group’s powerhouses, Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, from taking losses.
“Paul Heyman had wanted to bring Theory into the Vision, largely to make him a star and to protect Breakker and Reed from having to take pins,” Dave Meltzer reported.
The report also indicates that Theory is the leading candidate to be revealed as the masked man who attacked CM Punk during the WarGames match at Survivor Series. Theory was originally penciled in for the match itself, but plans shifted following Jacob Fatu’s injury, which accelerated the Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre feud and bumped McIntyre into the WarGames spot instead.
While Theory is the current plan, Meltzer noted that creative directions can change.
“That doesn’t mean Theory will end up being the guy under the mask when it’s revealed… If they drag it out until January, it could be Chris Jericho, which immediately gets him into a top position.”
