MJF was the driving creative force behind the AEW World Title match between Kenny Omega and Kevin Knight at Redemption, according to a Fightful Select report on Wednesday.
The report says MJF did not specifically push for Knight, but was heavily behind whoever held the TNT Championship challenging for the World Title at Sunday’s show. Fightful also reported MJF was in favor of Knight joining the Don Callis Family, though MJF has denied that.
Knight was owed a World Title match in storyline after joining Team MJF for the 12-man cage match main event at Forbidden Door.
Dave Meltzer previously reported that Omega vs. MJF for the title had been set for Redemption, and that MJF pushed for it to be moved up to the Beach Break edition of Dynamite instead. Omega won the title from MJF at that show. Fightful noted MJF is taking some time off.
MJF has not been announced for Redemption in any capacity.
