The first three men advanced in the inaugural AEW Continental Challenge Cup on Saturday’s Collision, with five first round matches still to come.
Eddie Kingston beat Jake Doyle in the main event, finishing with two spinning back fists and a dragon sleeper. It was Kingston’s first win on AEW television in nearly eight months. He was the first Continental Champion.
Claudio Castagnoli opened the show with a win over Ace Austin in their first singles match, taking the pin after a pop-up European uppercut.
Orange Cassidy beat Matt Sydal in another first-time matchup, avoiding a shooting star press and hitting a Beach Break for the pin. It ended a four-match losing streak on AEW television for Cassidy.
The remaining first round matches:
- Wednesday’s Dynamite in Las Vegas: Jay White vs. David Finlay, Jon Moxley vs. Jack Perry
- Next Saturday’s Collision in Las Vegas: Roderick Strong vs. Kyle O’Reilly, Hechicero vs. Brian Cage, Nigel McGuinness vs. Katsuyori Shibata
The eight remaining men go into a blind draw for the quarterfinals after next Saturday. The semifinals take place on the go-home Dynamite from Glasgow, Scotland, and the final is set for All In at Wembley Stadium in London.
