Nigel McGuinness will remain in the Continental Challenge Cup after suffering a foot injury in his first round win over Katsuyori Shibata.
McGuinness was seen in a boot on his left foot on Monday, but AEW announced there is no break or fracture, and he advances to the quarterfinals to face Hechicero.
“This could be the last chance I get to compete,” McGuinness said, explaining that at this stage of his career he was not willing to surrender his spot in the tournament or the chance to reach the final at Wembley Stadium.
The Continental Challenge Cup final takes place at All In: London on August 30. The semifinals are set for the go-home Dynamite from Glasgow, Scotland.
Before the quarterfinal, McGuinness challenges Lee Moriarty for the ROH Pure Championship this Friday at Death Before Dishonor at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.
