Jeff Jarrett says he hurt his ankle the first time he ever did a bulldog off the second rope, during a WCW match in Rome, Georgia.
On My World with Jeff Jarrett, recorded at the Forum River Center in Rome, Jarrett said one of his first WCW appearances was a TV taping in the same building. He said Kevin Sullivan came to him in the locker room before his match with John Tenta.
“He said, ‘Jeff, come here.’ And I walk over, and he said, ‘Working with John tonight. We need, I don’t know, six, eight minutes. What’s your finish?'” Jarrett said.
Jarrett said Sullivan steered him away from the figure four and asked for a bulldog off the second rope instead.
“Kevin Sullivan asked me this. I said, ‘Yeah, yeah.’ I don’t think I’ve ever done one in my life.”
He described the finish.
“He came charging. He hit the turnbuckle. I moved, popped up on the second rope, come off with it. When I came down, again, I’d never done it. Ankle tucked up under me. I did the no sell. I covered him, 1-2-3.”
Jarrett said he kept the injury to himself.
“That was a throbbing ankle, but I knew I had like seven or eight days. I didn’t tell anybody. Just went home.”
