Jeff Jarrett says he knew the Hulk Hogan finish at WCW Bash at the Beach 2000 was a bad idea as soon as he heard it.
Jarrett lay down for Hogan in the main event of the July 2000 pay-per-view, and Hogan pinned him for the WCW Championship. Booker T won the title from Jarrett later that night.
On My World with Jeff Jarrett, Jarrett was asked whether he expected the moment to still be talked about.
“Me and Hulk in the back, and John Laurinaitis, Johnny Ace, and we go through about a 20-minute match,” Jarrett said. “But when they came to me later in the day and said, ‘Hey, this is what we’re doing’… I knew then that it was a bad deal. Bad for me, bad for Hogan, bad for the business, bad for the brand, bad for promotion. There was just no upside to it because we were screwing the fans.”
Jarrett said the fans in the building had paid to see one thing.
“They were expecting Hulk Hogan to come kick Jeff Jarrett’s ass. That’s simple… Not on free TV, on a pay-per-view. Not only did we rob them of the main event and rob them of Hogan wrestling, we spit in their face.”
“It was a mess. Yes, I wish we weren’t still talking about it today, but it does not surprise me.”
