Jake Hager has had surgery to reattach a detached retina in the eye he injured at Power Slap 23.
Slap News shared the update on Instagram on October 23, with the information coming from Hager’s fiancée, Patricia Blackburn, who also competes in Power Slap. Doctors found the detached retina during a weekly follow-up as blood in the eye cleared, and Hager had urgent surgery to reattach it.
Slap News said the surgery went better than expected and described what lies ahead as “a very sensitive and unpredictable recovery.”
Hager lost to Johnny Magna by TKO in the second round on September 17 in Lubbock, Texas, after a slap left him bleeding from his left eye. Dana White said on September 22 that Hager went into surgery the night of the fight and was being sent to a specialist in Miami.
Hager is 1-2 in Power Slap. He signed with the promotion in March.
