Vince Russo held a series of talks with WWE President Nick Khan this summer about returning to WWE’s creative team, according to Conrad Thompson.
Thompson reported it in the first edition of his weekly Uncrowned column for Yahoo Sports. He said that when he followed up a few weeks ago, he was told the idea “died on the vine.”
Russo was WWE’s head writer until late 1999, when he left for WCW. A return would have been his first WWE creative role in 27 years.
Thompson wrote that two generations of wrestlers and WWE staff hold negative views of Russo, and that WWE could use him as a work-from-home creative consultant. He also wrote that WWE TV has become formulaic and that he was glad the company was thinking about shaking up its shows.
Russo said on Talk Is Jericho this summer that Triple H’s run is the worst creative in WWE history.
Thompson said he assumed a WWE deal was done when Russo left Juggalo Championship Wrestling in September, but was told that was not the case. Russo announced on X that he and Violent J had agreed to part ways.
