WWE Hall of Famer Kane, Glenn Jacobs, has emerged as the favorite to be appointed to the U.S. Senate seat from Tennessee, according to The Washington Sun.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn was elected governor of Tennessee on November 3. She will vacate her Senate seat when she becomes governor in January 2027, and she will pick her own replacement.
“Glenn Jacobs, the former Knox County, Tennessee, mayor better known to wrestling fans as Kane, has emerged as the favorite to fill the Senate seat Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tennessee) will vacate to become governor after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was ruled out of contention, according to multiple people familiar with the jockeying,” The Washington Sun reported.
The report named Rep. Tim Burchett, who was Knox County mayor before Jacobs, as another candidate seeking the appointment. Jacobs and Burchett both backed Blackburn in the primary and general election.
The person appointed will serve until 2028. They would need to win a special election that year to stay in the seat.
Jacobs, a Republican, served two terms as Knox County mayor. His eight-year tenure ended on September 1 because of term limits.
Jacobs, 59, was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2021. His last full match was at Crown Jewel 2018 in Saudi Arabia, where he teamed with The Undertaker against Triple H and Shawn Michaels. He was already Knox County mayor at the time.
