A new report from Sports Illustrated has provided some backstage details on AJ Styles’ appearance at TNA Slammiversary this past Sunday. According to the report, Styles’ return was met with a “universally positive reception” backstage.
A camera crew was reportedly following Styles throughout the night, though it is unclear if it was for WWE or TNA programming.
The report also notes that the creative plans for Styles’ appearance may have changed during the evening. While multiple sources indicated an original plan may have involved Frankie Kazarian, those plans changed before the show. TNA President Carlos Silva confirmed that the plan for Styles changed “a few times,” but the primary goal was always to celebrate his history with the X-Division, which is what happened when he came out to congratulate new X-Division Champion Leon Slater.
