This past Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite saw a significant increase in viewership, drawing the show’s best numbers in several months. The post-SummerSlam week episode benefited from a stacked card and the fallout from major recent events, resulting in a strong performance in both total viewers and the key 18-49 demographic.
AEW Dynamite Viewership and Ratings Breakdown
The Wednesday, August 6 episode of AEW Dynamite, which aired live on TBS, averaged 711,000 viewers. According to viewership data, this represents a substantial 16.2 percent increase from the previous week’s episode. It marks the best total viewership for Dynamite since the June 18 episode and is the show’s second-highest viewership number dating all the way back to September 11 of last year.
The show also saw a significant jump in the key 18-49 demographic, which is most valued by advertisers. Dynamite drew a 0.18 rating in the demo, a 20 percent increase from the prior week. This is also the second-largest rating the show has achieved in that category since June 18 and ties the second-highest rating for Dynamite since March 19. The strong performance saw Dynamite finish as the number two ranked show on all of cable for the night, behind only a new episode of the popular animated series South Park on Comedy Central.
A Consistent Upward Trend
This week’s strong numbers are part of a positive trend for AEW’s flagship show. Dynamite has now seen a year-over-year increase in total viewership for the second consecutive week, a feat the show had not accomplished since June of 2023. Compared to the same week in 2024, this week’s viewership was up 14.3 percent. While the 18-49 rating was down 5.3 percent year-over-year, the overall growth in viewership is a promising sign for the company. It’s also worth noting that these numbers do not include streaming viewers from the Max service, which would likely make the year-over-year comparisons even more favorable.
Compared to its recent 10-week average, this week’s episode was up 13.5 percent in total viewers and 12.5 percent in the key 18-49 demo, indicating a significant spike in interest for the current product.
A Stacked Show Delivers Results
The impressive ratings were undoubtedly driven by a loaded card for the August 6 episode. The show featured a major AEW World Tag Team Title Eliminator Tournament semifinal match between The Young Bucks and the team of “Brodido” (Brody King & Bandido). It also saw a grudge match between MJF and Mark Briscoe, the return of TBS Champion Mercedes Moné, and a four-way qualifier to determine her next challenger at the upcoming Forbidden Door pay-per-view. The combination of high-stakes matches and major storyline developments delivered a can’t-miss episode that successfully captured the attention of the wrestling audience.
