The professional wrestling career of Andrade El Idolo remains one of the most talked-about and confusing situations in the industry. The former WWE United States Champion recently took to his Instagram Stories to answer a fan’s question about his current status, and his answer was both simple and telling. When asked, “How do you feel in your current situation?” Andrade replied, “I have health! And that’s the most important thing.” His post, which was accompanied by a clip of him working out in the gym, highlights his focus on staying in shape despite being in contractual “limbo.”
Andrade’s status has been a major point of contention for the past month. He was reportedly fired by WWE in mid-September for what sources claim were multiple violations of the company’s Wellness Policy. He then made a shocking return to All Elite Wrestling on their October 1 sixth-anniversary show, attacking Kenny Omega and aligning himself with The Don Callis Family. However, he has not been seen on AEW television since. It was later reported that WWE had sent a cease-and-desist letter to AEW, citing a one-year, unpaid non-compete clause in Andrade’s TKO contract that activates if a talent is fired “with cause.”
This clause reportedly prevents Andrade from working for any TKO-affiliated promotion in the United States for one year. Despite this, he is still being advertised for an upcoming event by Big Time Wrestling in Augusta, Maine, on November 1, though it is unclear if he will be legally able to appear at that show. He is also scheduled to compete for WWC in Puerto Rico this weekend, which is likely allowed as it is outside the US.
