Last week’s SmackDown saw a surprising title change when Chelsea Green defeated Giulia to become the new two-time WWE Women’s United States Champion, thanks to interference from Alba Fyre. The move was praised by many fans online who felt Giulia’s main roster run as champion had been lackluster compared to her dominant time in NXT.
Now, a new report from Cory Hays of BodySlam.net suggests the title loss was actually a strategic move to set up a bigger push for the Japanese star. According to the report:
“The plan weeks ago was for her to enter the main event scene. Hoping that’s still the plan and she took the L like that to Chelsea for that reason.”
This report indicates that dropping the mid-card title was a necessary step to free Giulia up to move into the main event picture, likely to challenge for the WWE Women’s World Championship in the near future.
