John Cena has responded to his father’s candid comments regarding his final opponent.
With Cena’s retirement match set for December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event, speculation has centered on GUNTHER or LA Knight as potential opponents. Speaking on the All Axxess podcast, John Cena Sr. argued against GUNTHER getting the spot, stating, “Personally, GUNTHER doesn’t need the rub.”
During an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, Cena addressed his father’s remarks with humor and affection.
“Man, there’s some s*** he’ll say that is all f***** up. He said some s*** yesterday, ‘I don’t think John’s last opponent….’ and people listen to him because he’s a wrestling fan and is in the weird subculture zeitgeist. I want to call my dad and be like, ‘What the f*** are you doing?’ He’s doing what he does. This is the John Cena that I love.”
Cena’s final opponent will be officially determined on this Friday’s episode of SmackDown, where GUNTHER and LA Knight are scheduled to face off for the opportunity.
