Tony Khan has expressed his desire to keep Bryan Danielson in AEW long-term, especially since his full-time wrestling days are ending this year, and his contract runs until 2024. Danielson will only wrestle a few matches each year once he’s done full-time.
After Dynamite, AEW released a video showing an extended version of Danielson’s promo from the show. In the video, Danielson mentioned that his wrestling contract with AEW expires next Thursday. He also has a separate deal to work behind the scenes in the promotion’s creative department.
“That’s true (that my AEW contract is up in August). Well, August 1st actually. Next Thursday. My wrestling contract is up, which also happens to be my son’s fourth birthday. I’m not saying this — Tony (Khan) talked about this in an interview so I feel comfortable talking about it. I’m not MJF’ing this and being like, trying to use my contract being up and being like, ‘Oh! I’m gonna get all the money. Somebody give me all the money!’ Yeah, my contract is up August 1st. When I signed this contract, me and Brie (Garcia), we talked about how this would be the last wrestling contract I was gonna sign… Part of me is wondering what life is like after this. Part of me is excited about that. But, right now, even though Wembley is after this, I still have to focus on that, right? That’s gotta be kind of my focus and so, yeah… It’s a wild time.”
AEW All In event on Sunday, August 25, is expected to feature a match between AEW World Heavyweight Champion Swerve Strickland and Danielson.
