Becky Lynch has delivered the most effective character assassination in recent wrestling history — and she did it entirely through kindness. Speaking with Vulture ahead of WrestleMania 42, Lynch revealed that her experience working with MJF on Happy Gilmore 2 completely shattered her expectations of who the real Maxwell Jacob Friedman is.
“I think he’s so great. I love him. And honestly, I’ll be honest — I thought he’d be an a**hole like his character. He’s so good at his character that I was like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna hate this guy.’ And he’s just the sweetest boy. He’s so nice and he was so great and was such a great conversation. We bonded instantly and I love him. I totally bought the act, and now I’m killing the act, so sorry,” Lynch said. She also expressed genuine admiration for MJF’s future potential. “He’s a fantastic little speaker and actor and he’s also so young still. So I’m so very excited to see where his career goes.” Lynch plays an Irish golfer named Flex in the film while MJF portrays one of Happy Gilmore’s sons. Lynch challenges AJ Lee for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 42 Night One on April 18 in Las Vegas. MJF meanwhile is coming off losing the AEW World Championship to Darby Allin at Spring BreakThru Dynamite.
