Following the live broadcast of AEW Dynamite from Cleveland, Ohio, on Wednesday night, All Elite Wrestling taped several matches and angles for an upcoming episode of Ring of Honor television. The taping featured major developments in the feuds between MJF and Mistico, and Toni Storm and Athena, as well as a match for the number one contender to the ROH World Championship.
ROH TV Spoilers from Cleveland Taping
The ROH taping kicked off with a major singles match between the legendary luchador Hechicero and the veteran Jay Lethal. Hechicero picked up a significant victory, forcing Lethal to submit. The win gives Hechicero a great deal of momentum as he heads into his ROH World Championship match against the reigning champion, Bandido, at the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view on August 29.
The drama in the women’s division continued as the reigning ROH Women’s World Champion, Athena, defeated Diami in a non-title match. After the bell, her Forbidden Door opponent, AEW Women’s World Champion “Timeless” Toni Storm, ran to the ring and attacked Athena’s protégé, Billie Starkz. Storm then laid out Athena with a Thesz press. Starkz managed to pull Athena out of the ring before Storm could hit her with a hip attack. Storm then grabbed a microphone and delivered a bizarre and explicit message to Athena, which led to some unique chants from the Cleveland crowd.
The final match taped for ROH TV saw a team of CMLL stars, Mistico, Mascara Dorada, and Neon, defeat the team of Adam Priest and The Work Horsemen. The celebration was cut short, however, when the new CMLL World Light Heavyweight Champion, MJF, hit the ring wearing a Mistico mask and attacked the legendary luchador from behind. MJF gloated with his newly won championship, declaring that he owned both Mistico and Mexico. He told Mistico that if he wants a shot at the title, he’ll have to put everything on the line.
Major Developments in ROH Storylines
The events taped for Ring of Honor television have massive implications for two upcoming pay-per-view events. The post-match angle between Toni Storm and Athena adds another layer of personal animosity to their AEW Women’s World Championship match, which is scheduled for the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event on August 24. The attack from MJF on Mistico continues their deeply personal, cross-promotional feud and sets the stage for a potential high-stakes championship match in CMLL. Hechicero’s victory over a respected veteran like Jay Lethal also firmly establishes him as a credible threat to Bandido’s ROH World Title at Death Before Dishonor.
AEW Dark Match Results
Before the live broadcast of Dynamite began, AEW taped two “Dark” matches for its YouTube channel. In the first match, CMLL star Okumura defeated Sigma. In the second, The Beast Mortos picked up a victory over AR Fox. After that match, Mortos’s LFI stablemates hit the ring to continue the assault on Fox, standing tall over his body.
