Lucha libre legend Konnan has shared his thoughts on the mysterious new “El Clon” storyline in AEW involving the undefeated star, Hologram. In recent weeks, a series of cryptic vignettes have aired, teasing the arrival of a sinister doppelgänger for the high-flying luchador. It has since been reported that the role of “El Clon” will be played by another acclaimed luchador, Arez. The two men have a long and storied history, having competed against each other in a series of highly praised matches in promotions like AAA and MLW when they were known as Aramis and Arez, respectively. This real-life history has created a great deal of anticipation for their impending feud in AEW.
Speaking on his “Keepin’ It 100” podcast, Konnan, who has worked closely with both men in the past, expressed his excitement for the program and his confidence that the two will deliver incredible matches.
“I heard that Arez is going to be his clone, which is something we used to do a lot in AAA. So they’re actually getting one of our ideas which, once you have an idea, it’s all up for grabs. But he’s a guy I helped a lot. Helped him get into MLW, was not a good experience for him or Hologram, Aramis, and they will have great matches, I mean really good matches.”
The storyline in AEW began with vignettes showing the text “Access Denied” and later “Clon activated,” culminating in a brief glimpse of the sinister version of Hologram. It is not yet known when Arez will make his official debut as El Clon.
