Chris Jericho On His Career: “It Ain’t Over Yet!”

AEW

AEW star and wrestling icon Chris Jericho is celebrating a remarkable milestone in his legendary career. Today, October 2, 2025, marks 35 years since his very first professional wrestling match. The former multi-time world champion, who has competed in every major wrestling promotion around the globe, took to social media to reflect on his incredible journey, which began in a small town in Alberta, Canada. His comments provide a nostalgic look back at the humble beginnings of one of the most decorated and influential performers in the history of the sport. Despite being a veteran of 35 years, Jericho made it clear that he is not done yet and still has more to accomplish in the industry.

In his emotional Instagram post, Jericho reminisced about his debut match in Ponoka, Alberta.

“Crazy to think it’s been 35 years to the day of my VERY FIRST MATCH! On Oct 2, 1990 I faced @stormwrestlingacademy in Ponoka, Alberta at the #PonokaMooseHall, in front of about 85 people. The match ended in a ten minute draw and I remember every little thing as if it happened only yesterday! (I got paid 30 dollars….a 20 & a 10!). I have had a wonderful, amazing, one in a million career since then…. and I wanna thank all of YOU from around the entire world for joining me for certain parts …or even all of it! And the Good news is….IT AIN’T OVER YET!”

Jericho has been on hiatus from AEW programming since losing the ROH World Championship to Bandido earlier this year. His AEW contract is reportedly set to expire at the end of 2025, leading to speculation about his future. However, AEW President Tony Khan has recently stated that the door is open for Jericho to return, and Jericho’s own message indicates he still has a passion for competing.
